I loved everything about this place and it's a welcome change from the myriad of trendy bars / pubs these days with a lovely atmosphere, great food and friendly staff, I'll definitely be back. No pretentious nonsense, no deconstructed carrot in an apple and parsnip jus or hand crafted fillet of beef, slow roasted in the volcanic vents of mount Vesuvius, just a good old fashioned roast beef dinner with all the trimmings, gorgeous. I ordered myself a beef roast, when it arrived a breathed a sigh of relief. I absolutely love the look and feel of this place and it was freezing outside. I popped in just after opening and was greeted by a real open log fire (remember them) and the friendly bar staff. I found the Kings Head on TripAdvisor and it did not disappoint. The thought of having to find somewhere which served a decent roast without all the pretentious incarnations of a roast these days did not fill me with joy. I've been working in Chester a while and travelling back south on the weekends, however having to stay in Chester on a Sunday i was really going to miss my Sunday roast. Ye Olde Kings Head is a pub that is worth a visit and not to be missed if you like historic old pubs with bags of atmosphere and in a superb area of Chester and if you are ever in Chester give this pub a look you wont be disappointed. So easy to find from Ye Olde Kings Head bus stop it's a short walk.(This is my first review of Ye Olde Kings Head).
YE OLDE KINGS HEAD FULL
We didn't have a problem getting our seat but I could imagine this pub was really full later on in the evening. When here we had a few pints of Sharp's brewery Doom Bar a superb cask ale which were superb and on par price wise with other pubs in Chester. Stay safe Thank you gwilzz for the great art. We hope to re-open the middle of next week. This superb pub is without doubt one of my favourite pubs in Chester if not the UK and is a pub well worth visiting if you like really historic pub's.We went here early on in the evening and I must admit this pub was very busy. The Pub, Restaurant, Gift Shoppe and Bakery are all closed due to current events. They have a happy hour every weekday and a British Bakery and Store connected to the Pub. Serving English and British classics such as Fish n Chips, Cornish Paste, Sausage Rolls, Scotch Eggs, and More. Built in 1622 but with foundations that date from the 12th century'there are many items throughout this very historic pub that have interesting stories such as timber from one of Lord Nelsons sunken ships and also the fire-place which date from the Elizabethan era and many more interesting features'to many to mention in a review of this size. The pub is reputably haunted and I must admit it was one of the most atmospheric place's we went while on a city break in Chester. Ye Olde Kings Head is one of the if not the best British pub in the area. Ye Olde Kings Head in Chester is a superb pub on Lower Bridge street and is without doubt one of the best pubs in Chester and one of the most historic. ( I had commented on some of the changes in another thread a little over a mo ago.
